Children Ages 11 to Adult

Even at this age it is beneficial to start at the beginning to see how the concepts and methods are developed.

Take the time to work through the books – especially if you will be or are working with children.

Don’t underestimate the importance of the concepts presented in the Smiley Face Books – in particular the Multiplication and Division ones.

You don’t need to do every problem in all of the books or even write in the books but you do need to be a participant,

  1. verbalize the problem
  2. build the problem
  3. draw the problem
  4. see the mental picture of the problem
  5. use standard mathematical notation to represent the problem
  6. record the answer

Use manipulatives with each new concept and gradually move to the abstract.

You can further build on your understanding of the concepts by using the six steps listed above to work problems that you can already do with paper and pencil the traditional way.

Allow time and your subconscious to retrain your brain.
